Linn and Wuu

“We speak where plants whisper.”

Linn and Wuu is the collaborative name of artists Wanlin Jiang and Yunling Wu, an interdisciplinary duo whose work explores the relationship between nature, technology, and language.

Their ongoing interdisciplinary research project Plant Whisper investigates plant movement and communication through video, data, installation, and printmaking.

Combining Wanlin’s plant-centered visual storytelling with Yunling’s technology-driven approach, they create works that invite dialogue between human and non-human worlds.

Duo member 1 : Wanlin Jiang (Linn)

Wanlin Jiang (Linn) is an artist and printmaker based in London and Guangdong. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with a degree in Visual Communication in 2023. Wanlin initially gained attention with her collaborative project Plant Whisper, followed by a series called Plant Secrets. Her work focuses on the study of plants explored through the discipline of Visual Communication as a bridge to create meaningful connections between humans and nature.

She works across different media, ranging from installations, sculptures, sound design, experimental videos, printmaking, publications, and more. She has received widespread press, multiple awards, and has painting and sculptural work in numerous private collections. She is co-founder of Plant Whisper.

Artist Statement

Nature and plants are my inspiration, mentors, confidants and soul mates. If you ask me what I really want to do before my death, I wouldn’t create any artwork. I just want to lie in a bed of plants in peace, listening deeply.

In my mind, creating artwork is not the most important drive. I just choose art as a medium to encounter the plants, to have a conversation, to grow, to become a better human and for us to live in harmony together.

Duo member 2：Yunling Wu (Wuu)

Yunling Wu (Wuu) is an artist, visual designer, art director and educator based in Shanghai, China.

My works mainly focus on interdisciplinary creations on the theme of nature and technology, using experimental videos and data-based digital animations as the main medium. My background in software engineering has made me more interested in observing nature from the perspective of technology and data.

My practice has been systematically developed since my postgraduate studies, exploring the switch between human and non-human views around motion tracking technology, and analyzing the relationship between human and nature from the perspective of language and thinking cognition.

My Practice builds on the imaginary science and world-building of sci-fi narratives, constructing a systematic language across living and non-living entities through the data analysis of object tracking.

It is a visually based, non-verbal, multi-species communication and understanding, and it also can be seen as an attempt to find instances of communication with a unifying quality in which all things coexist - such as the movement of particles. The universe is translated interpretively through pixels of information, signals, and the floating of particles. And at the macroscopic level, ecosystems are woven together by intricate and complex threads of biological movement. Everything, from the inner universe to the outer universe, everything is moving in slow motion. And these threads of movement, which wrap us — human and more-than- human — tightly together. Just like a blue ball of wool. It also implies a symbiotic relationship, communicating together, influencing each other, causally connected.
